Home for the Holidays

As promised, I will now share photos of my CHRISTMAS DECORATING GREATNESS!!! Maybe I'm exaggerating on the "greatness" part... maybe not. You decide.

Last year was incredibly difficult on many levels, so our brand new apartment (at the time) never received the "holiday treatment." It's wonderful to be in the proper spirit to celebrate the Advent Season.

Our apartment has never felt more like a home than it does this December. It's funny, every decoration I have has a story and so many people have contributed to my collection that it's actually quite beautiful how much Christmas in my home represents the community of beautiful people surrounding me.

I put snow and berries on my tree instead of garland. I have another tree that I add gold ribbon to, but that one didn't make the cut this year. Are you LOVING my Disney mug?? Check your local Disney Store-- they're half off right now!

I realize my Dicken's Village is comprised of two whole buildings-- I'm working on it!-- but two of the best buildings: The Cratchet's and Scrooge's Counting House, complete with interior scenes. Next I hope to add Scrooge's home and get a figure of Bob Cratchet and Tiny Tim.

One of my favorite books for the season!

My Disney winter stuffed animals needed some air (the "ball" on the right is Betty the Yeti).

Thanks for taking a tour of my home at Christmas!

  1. Ermahgersh Jamie-your decorations...I'm so jealous right now! I feel like mine are still so "just out of college" and sad...I love them but I do hope to pick up some good stuff in the after christmas clearance! I love love love that you're starting a village-it's on my to do list-I always loved my mom's village and it's a tradition I'd like to continue (but maybe with a Lori-specific theme?!)...

    1. Oh man-- thanks! This collection has been growing since I was a kid, starting with ornaments. I bought my first small tree in college, then Michael and I upgraded to our pre-lit five footer our first year of marriage. There's still so much more I wanted to put but we just don't have the proper set up for garlands and I didn't have the energy to do the other tree.

I added this part to the blog as I was typing it to you because it felt poignant: It's funny, every decoration I have has a story and so many people have contributed to my collection that it's actually quite beautiful how much Christmas in my home represents the community of beautiful people surrounding me.

But waiting for sales is KEY. Do you have a Hobby Lobby by you? They have the best deals. A couple years ago, Michael and I went out the day after Christmas and bought 6 boxes of red & gold ornaments, 4 bags of snow, and a few other things. I think the total was MAYBE $50... and even that might be highballing. It was EPIC.

    1. Thanks so much! It's taken years of saving, shopping sales, and lots of creativity-- I spruced up the sleigh centerpiece since it was just the sleigh and balls and I needed to do something with that branch, and I had a lot of extra pine cones and berries so I dumped them on a glass serving dish and put them next to the nativity seen-- it's all really random!
